What a Scholarship Granting Organization is
A Scholarship Granting Organization is a nonprofit that receives tax-credit donations and awards K-12 scholarships to families. Donors give to the SGO; the SGO funds the students. The SGOs listed above run today’s state tax-credit programs and are the organizations expected to administer the federal credit when it launches.
About the official federal list
The federal Education Freedom Tax Credit goes live January 1, 2027. The official federal directory is the list each participating governor submits to the U.S. Treasury under §25F, those lists are still being finalized. The organizations above operate under existing state tax-credit programs and/or have announced plans for the federal credit; inclusion here is not a federal designation. When those rosters land, the participating SGOs for the EFTC (the credit also known as the ECCA or FSTC) will be the organizations on each governor’s list. See where every state stands →
Looking for participating schools?
Families choose the school; the SGO funds the scholarship. Each SGO publishes its own list of participating schools, usually on its website, so the fastest route is to open an organization’s profile above and follow the link to its site. There is no single federal participating-school list for the EFTC yet, a school takes part by accepting scholarships from an SGO serving its state.
