Exactly what to do

  1. Budget backwards from the 10%: everything that isn’t a scholarship, salaries, software, accounting, this year’s audit, must fit inside one dollar in ten. Assume “income” means all income (Treasury's anticipated reading), not just §25F gifts, and track the ratio live with the 90/10 calculator rather than discovering it at year end (deep dive).
  2. Scholarships fund the Coverdell (§530(b)(3)(A)) list: tuition, fees, tutoring, books and supplies, computers, special-needs services (the full list, explained). Write that list into your award terms, and prefer paying schools and providers directly over reimbursing families: the paper trail proves qualified use by itself.
